April 2 – written as part of the National Poetry Month Challenge.
I used to be afraid of snakes.
I still am, but now, awe mingles with the fear.
How does it, so many times a year, shed and renew!
And yet again, shed and renew.
Birthing a new me, is like revisiting, a favourite old playlist, after many years.
Expecting to hear the same songs, and feel the same feelings… feel the same hope and courage.
But while the lyrics are unchanged
I can’t say the same of me.
My questions as I shapeshift are like the songs.
The same whys, whats and hows!
The answers when they come are different each time.
Building over ruins, born anew, again.
Placing the jigsaw pieces just right.
An unending cycle of spirit broken, of being born anew, dashed to pieces again, and again renewed…
